Joseph Di Bella - Dump Doll

Transparent watercolor and white gouache painting by Joseph Di Bella.

Artist Statement: This subject appeared as a menacing image strewn on the ground as I walked on the farm on which I was raised. It was one of the dolls that belonged to a family member and was subsequently thrown into a trash heap. The odd juxtaposition of the broken plastic body against the overgrowth offered an introspective moment of reflection on the loss of childhood innocence and aspiration, and the paradox of happy memories as ultimately sad.
