Artist Statement: As the title suggests, I painted this garden of raspberries and helitropes, commonly known as sunflowers, on the first day of autumn. A "plein air" artist by training, Carolyn Lord was influenced by the California Watercolor Style of Millard Sheets and his peers. This approach to watercolor features bold color and strong design. Lord is inspired by her regional landscape and is best known for her garden paintings.
