Artist Statement: My paintings begin with a title, a feeling or a specific memory. I favor words and phrases that have layers of meaning. The curious viewer can glean hints to my story from these titles. This loosely held idea guides each decision. Color is always my next consideration. I slather on rich, vibrant color and embellish with gestural script-like pencil and brush marks. My mark-making often starts with letter forms and sometimes devolves into pattern.
