Artist Statement: Luminous, dynamic transparent watercolor is the medium used for “Winter Shower.” Carrying balloons outside from a party, I was struck by the contrast of bright snow, rich shadows, and glowing balloons. The painting challenge was defining the difference of light in the transparent, translucent and opaque balloons, created with graded washes and glazes.
