Artist Statement: I interpreted the shapes of light streaming onto this woman into watercolor. Her hat bow looked like a bird’s beak so I painted it as a real bird! Minimizing face detail draws the eye to hands and silverware first, the bird comes as a surprise — rewarding continued exploration.
