Developing good compositional awareness results in keeping the viewer’s attention. We must be storytellers. We must captivate. Providing an element of mystery hopefully provokes some intrigue. Leaving the door open for interpretation, a painting ought to resonate with its audience. There should be some spark of familiarity. This is what allows each viewer to bring their own unique interpretation to a painting.
