Karen Nolan - Rainy Night in Tucson
Watercolor painting by Karen Nolan.
Artist statement: Being creative has always been part of my life and work, but I never took the time to paint until I retired from teaching in 2004. While visiting London, I observed my first original Monet. After that I was hooked!! I was inspired to try the watercolor medium because I loved its challenging qualities- especially the transparency. I am continually exploring the variations of watercolor and its techniques.
Right now, I am obsessed with reflections. Whether it be reflections on a wet pavement or reflections in the water. The glow that appears, and the colors that radiate in the reflection are both inspiring and challenging. Taking a night scene and giving it a glow with color satisfies my desires. This painting achieved that for me.
